Legendary Jamaican musical group and cornerstone of the reggae genre
Founded in 1961 by frontman Frederick "Toots" Hibbert along with Nathaniel "Jerry" Matthias and Henry "Raleigh" Gordon, the group is widely credited with giving reggae its name through their 1968 single "Do the Reggay".
Emerging during the transition from ska and rocksteady, the group's soulful, gospel-infused vocal style—often compared to Otis Redding—helped define the early reggae sound. They hold the record for the most number-one hits in Jamaica (31) and gained international fame with songs featured in the seminal 1972 film The Harder They Come.
One of Manchester's hidden gems and a big part of its musical heritage.
